What: 2 hour fun shoot
Where: Shore of Victoria beach
Who: Ian Porcher
Why: Male portrait shots
A group of us went to go hang out at a rocky outcrop in a bay near Victoria. The sky was clear and blue, the sun was high and all of us were hung-over and badly in need of sleep. There were a bunch of cool little areas on the outcrop that I tried to take advantage of, and I got the feeling again like I was trying to herd cats. I finally got my head together and started grabbing people one by one instead of trying to do everything at once. What is there to say about taking pictures of Ian though? Not much. The guy is a natural, and I just happened to be there with a camera.
What did I learn?
If the sun is hitting the subject head on, it might work to simply get them to turn their back to it. Pretty simple.
You don't need to show off all of the scenery, despite how beautiful it may be.
It worked, for me, to allow Ian to get comfortable where he was and naturally position himself; then make adjustments gradually. The shots that I took where I told him what to do before-hand look very unnatural, regardless of how good they look.
Ian is good looking, which is why his life is so easy.
